Photos of Naturist Legacy's early success
28. A splash deck for the park's new swimming pool is built
I designed our new swimming
pool's splash deck prior to obtaining a
building
permit from the
RM
of Brokenhead (see also the
Pool
Plan View). Dimensions for the splash deck surface were compliant with
Manitoba
Health's swimming pool
regulations.
We began building this new and unique structure in early June. I hand selected
and hauled all of the treated lumber from
Winnipeg
to Naturist Legacy Park. The splash deck was a geometric puzzle! The pool
was 33 feet in diameter. Once I and a fellow director had calculated all
the angles and established all the measurements for each segment, we were
able to build a template. Seventeen more segments just like the first were
built over the next few days, with two segments slightly modified to accommodate
the pool's skimmers. Each segment rested on beams that were supported on
posts at one end (next to the pool) and flat concrete blocks at the other
end. Deck boards were screwed to each segment's frame in a sunburst pattern.
Each of the eighteen splash deck segments was independent of its neighbours
and could be easily removed for access to pool plumbing if required. Sturdy
steps were made of treated 2x4's on edge.
These photographs from my personal collection were taken in June 2012.
