Media coverage from John Kundert's time as Naturist Legacy's
Manitoba nudists have a new place to enjoy their pastime.
A piece of 80-acre land 10 km east
of Libau has been purchased and has officially become Naturist Legacy,
the legacy of Crocus Grove Sun Club, which for 40 years was Manitoba's
premiere nudist club. Unfortunately, the club did not own the property
which it had called home for decades. That property was sold in 2006 to
new owners who unexpectedly closed it to nudist use in April of 2010. The
Libau area campground had been home to the group since 1969.... But former
Crocus Grove members are happy to have their very own place in Naturist
Legacy. "What happened to us before won't happen to us again," says John
[Kundert].... Nudism (also called naturism) is the practice of going without
clothing in social settings (generally in mixed-gender groups of all ages)
in the belief that doing so is beneficial to human mental health. According
to its website, Naturist Legacy believes in and supports the principle
of providing a safe and secure environment where naturism suitable for
all ages can be legally practiced in a natural and non-sexual setting.
Modelled after a land trust (also known as a land conservancy), this new
private non-profit corporation will both
own and manage Naturist Legacy. The park will be open for use this summer,
but John [Kundert] said it won't be until next year that actual facilities
are available. Plans include the installation of bathrooms, a swimming
pool, and eventually a clubhouse.
